As a prelude to July 4, 1776, the passing of the declaration of America's Independence, we aim to illuminate the honor and audacious endeavors of the men and women of the Fourth Provisional Congress. On April 12, 1776, within the precincts of Halifax, these delegates voted to sever ties with Great Britain. It was in Halifax where caution prevailed, and delegates, mindful of their intent not falling on the wrong ears, whispered words of liberty and freedom, passing the Halifax Resolve, and thus, the Birthplace of America’s Independence was born. North Carolina's delegates, “Resolve” in hand, journeyed to Philadelphia, advocating for liberty, and heralding the dawn of a new era.
